Behaviour Support

Behaviour Consultations

We provide dedicated behaviour consultations helping you and your pet to overcome behaviour concerns including fear and anxiety, noise phobias, indoor toileting, over-arousal, aggression towards people or animals and separation related behaviours.

We work as a team which includes a practising veterinary surgeon who will be able to discuss possible medical contributions to your pets behaviour. As part of the consultation process we can consider whether your pet may benefit from any medication to help them progress. The details of which would then be discussed with your referring vet. This is all in addition to generating a detailed behaviour modification and training plan tailored to your lifestyle and both you and your pets needs.

Most initial consultations are conducted via zoom and then in cases where it is suitable (and within a 30 minute drive of LN6 9NQ), a practical 1-2-1 training session of up to 45 minutes is also included. This is so we can meet you and your animal in person whilst also supporting you in implementing any practical training advised. Following the initial consultation you have our support with implementing the designed plan for up to 2 months. If further support is needed after this, we can help with this too, through a revisit consultation.   Behaviour consultations can only be offered on veterinary referral: this means that you will need to ask your own vets to complete our referral form and send us a copy of your pet’s full veterinary history.

If you are more than 30minutes drive from LN6 9NQ then we can offer all support remotely via zoom/phone/email.

If you would prefer an in-person consultation initially then this may be possible (depending on location), so please contact us to discuss: admin@petbc.co.uk

So what is included?

Included in the package is review of the pre-consultation information which you complete when booking, the consultation itself, a comprehensive written report after the consultation, and up to 2 months of behavioural follow up support and advice which can include practical support in discounted group sessions and/or a 1-2-1 (up to 45mins) if within 30minutes of LN6 9NQ.  Initial consultations typically last between 1-2 hours.

So what is not included?

Sometimes follow up veterinary tests or procedures may be recommended which will usually be performed at your own vet practice. Any medications recommended will also be dispensed directly from your veterinary practice.

For cases where it is suitable and feasible, an initial in person training session is included after the consultation, and in many cases you will be able to follow the training plan through at home with our email and telephone guidance. Sometimes, it can help to have additional in person training or join group classes, and these are offered at a discounted rate after your consultation.

What is the cost?

Initial behaviour consultations for dogs are priced at £475.

This includes a consultation (usually up to 2 hours and typically on zoom initially) and up to 2 months of follow up support as described above.  An in person training session of up to 45 minutes may also be included where suitable and for those who are within 30minutes drive of LN6 9NQ. We may also invite you to attend group session which we feel are appropriate for you and your pet, these are offered at a discounted rate.

Revisit consultations for dogs are priced at £320. These can be booked up to 6 months after the date of the initial behaviour consultation. The price includes up to 2 months of follow up support.

Please note that Clients of the Veterinary Hospital, Lincoln, receive a £50 discount on the initial consultation fee. A discount code will be provided to you by the Veterinary Hospital. This should be entered under ‘redeem coupon’ at the time of booking and payment to receive the discount.

What do I need to do to get booked?

You will need to complete the pre-consultation questionnaire in as much detail as possible and submit this to us before we can confirm your appointment.

Please discuss your responses with the whole family and indicate any areas of disagreement between individuals. Please include as much information as possible.

We will also need a veterinary referral from your vets for each pet. This can be requested from your vets by you, or by us.

Once we have completed history forms and veterinary referral for all pets you wish to be seen, we can book and confirm your appointment.

If the presenting problem includes multiple pets, we will need referrals and history forms completing for each pet but the fee is for the consultation, not per pet. I.e. if the problem is aggressive behaviour between 2+ dogs within the home the fee is £475 for the consultation not £475 per dog.

Please also send us a short video of your pet when they are relaxed at home or on a walk. We do not need to see the problem behaviour in most cases. Therefore, only if safe to do so, please send pictures or video footage relating to the problem behaviour.
